Please note that temperature taken on the forehead or in the ear differs slightly from the temperature taken in the mouth or under the armpit.


In general an elevated temperature is above 37 °C and a fever is above 38 °C.


Ear / Forehead


Low temperature         ≤ 35.7 °C 

Normal temperature         35.8 – 36.9 °C

Elevated temperature         37.0 – 37.5 °C

Light fever            37.6 – 38.0 °C

Average fever            38.1 – 38.5 °C

High fever            38.6 – 39.4 °C

Very high fever            39.5 – 42. 0°C



Armpit / Mouth


Low temperature         ≤ 35.8 °C

Normal temperature         35.9 – 37.0 °C

Elevated temperature         37.1 – 37.5 °C

Light fever            37.6 – 38.0 °C

Average fever            38.1 – 38.5 °C

High fever            38.6 – 39.4 °C

Very high fever            39.5 – 42.0 °C
