Small children (especially those under 2 years) lose heat through the surface of the head. For this reason, fluctuations in temperature may occur on the face when a fever occurs. If the baby's temperature is over 38 degrees, perform 3 further measurements on different parts of the forehead and calculate the average of the results. Also, should fever be present, increase the frequency of the measurements in order to monitor the child's temperature over a period of time thus obtaining a more accurate indication.
